A summer of festivals is on the horizon again and its time to sack off the predictable and tired line ups of Wireless, Reading (what happened to Reading - that used to be unreal!) etc and let KING get you familiar with those events off your radar, on the come up and making moves as essential destinations. Lets have a look at four of the best:

SLAM DUNK 25-26 May

The alt scene got out of its early 2000’s bed in the last few years and kicked the door in, and Slam Dunk is saying A LOT for those on the post hardcore, punk and nu metal vibe.

With both a North and South edition so everyone can smash each other to bits in the moshpit the length and breadth of the country, the line up is pretty mental.

From US punk and hardcore bands like Pennywise and The Wonder Years, to female fronted outfits that deserve to be selling out major venues - i’m looking at As Everything Unfolds and Against The Current here, and they’re not even headlining.

In order to put you on an intravenous drip the week after the event then you’ll need to make sure you’re at the front for I Prevail and You Me At Six…or you can watch re-runs of the actual drip that is Taylor Swift on YouTube. It’s up to you...

punk as fuck

In conjunction with the legendary RINSE FM 30yr anniversary, Project 6 is a shutdown before its even started. You know this one is gonna be a proper rave and the line up is stacked, stacked, stacked with serious talent. The headliners aren’t even the best acts tbh, but still cold - Pusha T and Nines.

Where do we start…Casisdead should be headlining, but he’s there at least, so big up for that. Ms Dynamite, Katy B repping for the females, and the DJ line up is mad -  Target, LTJ Bukem, Logan Sama, Sports Banger. I mean the list honestly is endless. I can’t go, i wish i could.

Brockwell Park is the location, so you know, everyone behave yourselves so GB NEWS don’t have an aneurysm with their headlines…

HELLFEST 27-30 June

This is meant to be about UK festivals but this one just simply could not be left out. Its only in France so technically it’s next door, so it still counts.

Firstly this is a monster of metal, rock and alternative music. If you’re down, then you will know already. if you’re not - educate yourself. I mean the line up is like back in the 90’s when Reading popped off hard.

Do you wanna go and see Metallica, or maybe Megadeth, what about Foo Fighters? And if you’ve got any energy left, The Prodigy (probably the best live show on the planet) are there, so are The Offspring, Enter Shikari...fuck, even Body Count and Ice T are throwing down.

This is quite likely the best festival of the summer and i actually don’t think it's even up for debate. Get a ticket and thank us later.

Good luck getting front stage amongst that lot

WE OUT HERE 15-18 Aug

This one is definitely left field on the festival line up and for that reason alone it deserves a feature. Catering for the more eclectic musical tastes and those looking for a conscious message in their music, the line up is awash with genres from trip-hop, electro, soul, rhythm and blues and jazz.

Andre 3000, Black Thought, Floating Points and Sampha make up an extremely diverse headline roster and this is complimented by a very strong DJ line up. Its not just about the music though, with wellness sessions and workshops available and plenty of family camping too. Connect with your inner hippie and take it all in. You might just find that this festival actually changes your life!
